VACCINES

The veterinarians at WVC are proud to offer the best in preventative medicine.

We require all patients receiving vaccinations to have a current annual exam. Vaccine reactions, although an uncommon event, can be life threatening. For this and many other reasons, we highly recommend vaccines be administered under the direction of a licensed Veterinarian. At your annual exam appointment, your veterinarian will discuss your pet's lifestyle and decide on an appropriate vaccine schedule. Tailored vaccine schedules are a essential part of our practice philosophy.

The vaccines we stock are chosen not only for their effectiveness, but also for their safety. Unlike vaccine clinics, we do not use 'tank' vaccines. These are multiple-doses of vaccines sold in a single bottle. Studies have shown the concentration of these products per dose varies tremendously between the first and last dose taken from the bottle.

We also do not use feline vaccines which have the Leukemia portion mixed with the RCP portion. Current Feline Medicine trends recommend each vaccine given at pre-designated sites. Mixing the vaccines is contraindicated. We also do not give vaccines we feel are unnecessary. For example, we do not recommend the Feline Leukemia vaccine for most indoor-only cats. We also do not carry vaccines where studies do not support their effectiveness and/or safety. Our staff and veterinarians are trained in the appropriate method and area to administer the vaccines. Your veterinarian will discuss this aspect of preventative medicine at your pet's appointment time.
